Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
